The duties of an Academic Administrator are largely administrative, although teaching and research responsibilities may be assigned. The Academic Administrator oversees complex units with a substantial amount of independence and works closely or jointly with faculty. This position serves as Director of the UC Davis Human Lactation Center, a fully self-supporting research, training, and outreach center housed in the Department of Nutrition, and Director of the Master of Advanced Study in Maternal and Child Nutrition (MCN), a self-supporting departmental master’s degree program. Responsibilities include teaching and scholarly research activities. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DESIGNATED AREAS OF EXPERTISE I. ADMINISTRATION/MANAGEMENT OF PROGRAMS (55%) This position serves as the director of the Master of Advanced Study in Maternal and Child Nutrition self-supporting degree program and provides intellectual leadership and management of program resources. Working with the Maternal and Child Nutrition graduate program chair, the program director provides leadership for all facets of the program and is responsible for the quality and consistency of the program including development, coordination, and oversight of the overall curriculum, classes, and instruction, program planning, management of day-to-day operations including supervision of program staff, coordination of committees and meetings, student advising, oversight of student capstone projects, budgeting and expenditures, management of external accreditation efforts, and communicating with the program chair. (40%) This position also is responsible coordinating the activities of faculty and academic staff associated with the UC Davis Human Lactation Center and associated scholarly research. These activities include development of proposals for extramural funding; planning, developing, and evaluating center-based programs; management of program resources and budgeting; hiring and supervising personnel; and overall contract and project management. The incumbent shall provide intellectual leadership and scholarship in the roles of administrator and supervisor. (15%) II. PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE AND ACTIVITY (40%) The incumbent must show evidence of continuing professional growth, teaching expertise and continued scholarly activity in their discipline. They will provide intellectual leadership and scholarship and participate in relevant professional societies and conferences. Teaching (30%) Contracts and Research (10%) Ill. UNIVERSITY AND PUBLIC SERVICE (5%) The incumbent will participate in the governance of the MCN, Nutrition department and university through appropriate roles such as participation in committees and policy formulation. They may provide presentations or service in a liaison capacity with community groups, public, governmental and private agencies. QualificationsBasic qualifications (required at time of application)
